Oral Histories
The Whittier Historical Society has been collecting oral histories since the early 1970s. Many of the older histories were recorded using media of the time - reel to reel and cassette tapes. By 2016, the media were becoming increasingly fragile and playback equipment was not always available. A grant from the State Library, California Revealed Project enabled the Museum to have the media digitized. The recordings are now archived on the internet as part of the California Revealed and California Light and Sound Collections.
The Whittier Historical Society wishes to thank the Whittier Public Library for their assistance in obtaining the grant as well as facilitating the work. The Library also has a collection of oral histories.
